Unit Standards

What is a unit standard?

Unit standards are New Zealand recognised Qualifications that can be attained in various areas from commercial practices to recreational pursuits.  Today most Polytechnics and other training establishments offer unit standards for the areas of learning that they teach.  While unit standards are a measure of learning they are also useful for career pursuits and can be added to résumés.

Who can get Unit standards?

If you are a senior student in High School or an adult you qualify for unit standards training.  What you need to do is “Hook on” with NZQA and they will issue you with a number.  From then on any unit you achieve will be credited to your name.

Who can offer Unit standards?

Private Training Establishments (PTE) that are approved and registered on the NZQA framework can only offer unit standards.  While Tui Ridge is not a PTE it works under the umbrella and mediation of Te Waiariki Purea Trust, which is, enabling Tui Ridge to offer a wide range of level 2 and 3 unit standards in the area of outdoor recreation.
